Chris Cornell, Lead Singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave, Dies at 52

As news of Chris Cornell’s death spread across the internet, speculation of suicide looms. The Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog frontman was found unresponsive in his hotel room Wednesday night following a concert in Detroit.

His cause of death is still unconfirmed, however, sources close to the Detroit Police Department say they are investigating it as a possible suicide. Michael Woody, a spokesman for the Detroit Police Department, told The Associated Press that there were “basic things observed at the scene” that indicated a suicide.

Cornell, a pioneer of the grunge rock scene, had spent a majority of his life battling severe depression and addiction to drugs and alcohol. The singer’s family will be working closely with law enforcement to determine his cause of death.

Cornell was 52.
